How do we recruit people?

  • By ensuring the executive enjoys the experience, at a mutually convenient time with the bidder.
  • Through phone calls to companies, talking to senior administrative assistants.
  • Through direct contact via email, phone, letter, with executives.
  • Through the charity's connections.
  • Through people we meet at events, through business organisations.
  • Through executives volunteering themselves.
  • Through suggestions from potential or current bidders.
  • Through contact with the participating executives.
  • And for an example from Montreal:
    The Montreal auction team sent out pamphlets to business people around Montreal, asking for their thoughts. They followed up, and in the process, extended their network.   They not only found executives and suggestions for executives, but in some cases met people who have offered even more help.

Bear in mind that in the first year of the auction in Ottawa, of the 75 executives auctioned, the charity knew only about a dozen of them. They got the chance to make new friends. Most of the bidders were executives too, so the charity expanded its network of potential future supporters.

We believe that if you ensure the experience is enjoyable, and don't ask too much of anyone, this is a sustainable means of involving VIPs in your charity efforts.   It has certainly been an enjoyable experience here in Ottawa.
